Cindy Sherrell Leo

Longtime member and supporter of MPMA, passed away on March 10, 2008. Cindy directed the Museum and Field Services department at the Texas Historical Commission for many years. She was the coauthor of the highly acclaimed book: Starting Right: A Basic Guide to Museum Planning. Cindy was also a member of the AAM board and was included in AAM’s Centennial Honor Roll in 2006.

Peter S. LaPaglia

Peter LaPaglia passed away at home in Tennessee on June 10, 2008.  He was a past president of the Mountain-Plains Museums Association, serving terms in 1988 and 1989. He worked in the museum field for over a decade and a half before founding LaPaglia & Associates in 1990. As chief curator at the Tennessee State Museum, He administered a 100,000 item cultural history collection and played an instrumental role in planning for a new 112,000 square foot museum facility. From there he went to AASLH where he directed seminars and workshops and other professional continuing education programs throughout the country
and produced video training aides for museum professionals. He was executive director of the Wichita Falls Museum and Art Center and AASLH’s interim CEO. He received a B.A and a M.A. in History from Middle Tennessee State University. His publications include Public History: Essays from the Field, Tennessee Grassroots Writer, and contributions to various professional periodicals. Pete was a strong supporter of MPMA over the years and he will be greatly missed.
