Research Paper Competition

CALL FOR CURRENT RESEARCH PAPERS

Deadline:  2017 TBA

Why?

Get your research acknowledged. Don't miss out on this opportunity to present and share your work with colleagues in our 10-state region.

The Current Research from the Field Competition is the best way for professionals and students in the museum, history, and heritage fields to present their research in a session at the Annual MPMA Conference.

What?

This Call for Papers invites proposals of 300 words maximum from students, emerging professionals, and established professionals on current research or work in progress on any matter relating to museums or heritage.

Authors of three winning proposals will present their research in the Current Research from the Field Session at the Annual Conference.

Eligibility

  • Current professionals in the museum and heritage fields; students and recent graduates of museum studies or related heritage, history and preservation disciplines.
  • Applicants must work or study in cultural institutions that are located in the MPMA region which includes Kansas along with Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming
  • For the students who attend on-line programs, they must be residents of the MPMA region.

Submission Process

Please submit proposals to Nicky Ladkin at nicky.ladkin@ttu.edu as a pdf attachment to an email.

Please enter "Current Research Proposal" in the subject line.

The proposal should include a title but should not include the name of the author.

It should be typed double-spaced and the pages should be numbered.

Review Process

Submissions will be anonymously evaluated by a panel comprising representatives of MPMA-COMPT, MPMA-AAMG, and others to be decided. Three proposals will be selected which, in the opinion of the panelists, will be of greatest interest to Annual Meeting participants. The decision of the panelists is final. The winning authors then will develop the proposal into papers to be presented in the Current Research from the Field session. Notification of the results will be via email by TBA. Winners are expected to attend the annual conference.

Questions?

All questions should be directed to MPMA's COMPT Chair:

Nicky Ladkin, Assistant Director Academic Engagement, Vice-Chair Museum Science and Heritage Management, Museum of Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX, nicky.ladkin@ttu.edu

Presenting in a session is a GRRRREAT experience that contributes to everyone's professional development.

We are asking university personnel associated with museum studies or public history programs (as well as university museum staff who offer training/internships for students interested in pursuing museum careers) to strongly encourage students to submit proposals to this competition.
