    Job Description: The Director of Development directs all fundraising initiatives for the National Atomic Museum Foundation, a nonprofit organization that owns and operates the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. The Director of Development is directly responsible for major gifts, planned giving, sponsorship development, corporate fundraising, and oversees the membership, grant writing program, and events coordination. Position collaborates with the Museum Executive Director, Board of Trustees, and staff to meet financial goals.

    Requirements: Five years of nonprofit fundraising experience; excellent writing and speaking skills; strong interpersonal skills; and a high level of personal energy. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required and an advanced degree desired. Should be very comfortable with sponsorship calls to individuals, small businesses, and major corporations involved in nuclear energy, medicine, and other technical fields. Should be skilled at gift cultivation and have an understanding of planned giving and capital campaign programs. Must be exceptionally organized, able to multi-task, and comfortable working in a fast-paced museum environment with multiple projects. Experience with fundraising events is preferred.

    Duties: The Director of Development creates and administrates the museum’s development plan and program and is responsible for its successful implementation. Position identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards donors and potential donors to foster growth in major gifts and planned giving; solicits corporate sponsorships; oversees the annual appeal; oversees the membership program, grants program, and facilitates donor recognition. Position is also responsible for the Einstein Society Gala, an upper-level membership and cultivation event held each spring. Position supervises three staff members with a budget that has annual revenue goals. Some travel for corporate cultivation, training, or national programming is required.

    Organization: The museum is the largest of its topic area in the world, accredited by AAM and a Smithsonian Affiliations member since 2002. Chartered by congress as “America’s Museum resource for nuclear history and science”, it is owned and operated as a not-for-profit organization. In existence for 52 years, the museum presents unique exhibits and programs to persons of all ages with emphasis on science education.

    Salary and Benefits: This full-time exempt senior professional position is supported by major medical, dental, vision, 401k retirement savings program benefits. Salary of $55,000 annually.
