    Museum Director - Wyandotte County Museum, Kansas

    Job Description:

    • The Museum Director is responsible for managing the maintenance of the facility and develops strategies to optimize the buildings use.
    • The Director develops appropriate administrative processes and procedures to ensure the preservation of Wyandotte County history. 
    • The Director also informs the board and staff as to key decisions, meetings and information that aid in understanding outcomes.
    • The Director must interact effectively with many constituencies: students, participants, funders, school and civic organizations, Unified Government staff as well as the State of Kansas. 
    • The Director is expected to take a leadership role in monitoring public history trends and recommending appropriate programming to keep pace with a changing environment.
    • Increasing local and regional public awareness of the mission and programming offered by the Wyandotte County Museum in order to attract visitors, donors and volunteers to the Museum.
    • Interacting with the Wyandotte County community, including patrons, donors, exhibitors, schools, civic organizations, Unified Government and State of Kansas, docents and volunteers, to ensure Museum reflects their needs and that its contributions are recognized.
    • Proven ability to organize and manage a budget, monitor on-going financial performance, and demonstrated success in fundraising and implementing a capital campaign.
    • Significant experience as a leader or manager within a public museum or non-profit with a comparable budget, or demonstrated management, analytical, and planning skills that provide a potential to grow into this profile.
    • Superior communication skills, and the ability to work with, implement policies of, and report to the Historical Society Board of Directors to carry out the mission of the Museum and the vision of what the Museum is and can be.
    • Experience in supervising staff.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor's Degree in a related field and five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public agency, or, and equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Some weekend work hours may apply.

    Salary Range:

    $31.00 - $48.42 hourly. This is a full time salaried position. 

    All positions require that the applicant be a resident of Wyandotte county or willing to relocate within (12) months from the date of hire. As a condition of employment all employees must pass a post offer physical examination and drug screen. And submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.
