Why?

Get your research acknowledged! Don't miss out on this opportunity to showcase and share your work with colleagues in our ten-state region.  The Current Research from the Field Paper Competition provides professionals and students in the museum, history, and heritage fields the opportunity to present their research to their peers and colleagues in the Mountain-Plains region.

What?

This Call for Proposals invites proposals of 300 words maximum from students, emerging professionals, and established professionals on current research or research work in progress on any matter relating to museums or heritage.

Authors of three winning proposals will develop their proposals into papers to be published in the MPMA Newsletter in the months after the Conference. Also, participants in the MPMA Annual Meeting would vote for the proposal they would prefer to see developed into a paper for the Newsletter as the “Registrant’s Choice” winner.

Review Process

A panel comprising established researchers will evaluate submissions. Three proposals will be selected which, in the opinion of the panelists, will be of greatest interest to the MPMA membership. The decision of the panelists is final. The winning authors then will develop the proposal into papers to be published in the MPMA Newsletter. One additional paper will be chosen as the “Registrants Choice” winner by participants in the MPMA 2023 Conference who will have the opportunity to read and vote for the proposal they would prefer to see developed into a paper for the Newsletter. Notification of the results will be made during the 2023 Conference.

Questions?

All questions should be directed to MPMA's Research Paper Competition Chair:

Sally Shelton, Associate Professor of Practice and Associate Chair, Heritage and Museum Sciences, Museum of Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX, sally.shelton@ttu.edu

Participation is a great experience that contributes to everyone's professional development.

We are asking university personnel associated with museum studies or public history programs (as well as university museum staff who offer training/internships for students interested in pursuing museum careers) to strongly encourage students to submit proposals.
