Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 5:00PM, some weekends and nights required.
The Longmont Museum is seeking a Senior Manager of Exhibitions to implement a full exhibition program in the Museum's expansion, opening this fall.
Definition:
The Senior Manager of Exhibitions communicates the Museum’s mission through strategic planning, project management, and oversight of exhibitions. These exhibitions aim to celebrate, honor, and critically explore Longmont culture and share world cultures with Longmont. The Senior Manager of Exhibitions leads all aspects of exhibition development, including project oversight, budgeting, contractor coordination, and team leadership, while ensuring exhibitions align with institutional goals and community engagement strategies.
Principal Duties:
Project Management
Serve as the primary Project Manager for in-house and externally developed exhibitions, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, timelines, and budgets.
Lead and oversee all aspects of exhibition production, including concept development, design, fabrication, installation, and evaluation.
Manage multiple large-scale, concurrent exhibition projects, coordinating with external vendors, contractors, and city stakeholders to ensure successful execution.
Develop and enforce quality control processes to ensure exhibitions meet design specifications and museum standards.
Oversee exhibition logistics, including contract negotiations, material procurement, and construction oversight.
Ensure project adaptability by coordinating off-site fabrication and adjusting strategies based on construction schedules and space availability. Ensure that all exhibitions uphold historical, artistic, and scientific integrity, adhering to ethical standards throughout the planning, design, and implementation process.
Stay updated on industry standards and best practices through professional development and museum research.
Construction Oversight & Quality Control
Collaborate with leadership and city officials to oversee the development of designs, plans, specifications, and construction scheduling for gallery renovations.
Ensure museum interests are represented in construction decisions, advocating for exhibition needs and accessibility considerations.
Ensure that all exhibitions, especially the Dream Lab in Lila’s Children’s Gallery, are maintained for a safe and high-quality visitor experience.
Budget & Financial Oversight
Develop and manage exhibition budgets, including materials, fabrication, labor, and contractor costs, ensuring financial accountability.
Lead the financial planning and execution of exhibitions, identifying cost-saving measures while maintaining quality.
Work with the rest of the museum leadership team to establish revenue targets for exhibitions and admission growth.
Work collaboratively with museum staff on grant proposals and funding applications for exhibitions and special projects.
Supervision & Team Leadership
Supervise and mentor a team of full-time and part-time employees, ensuring professional development and effective project execution.
Provide leadership in succession planning, ensuring a seamless transition and institutional knowledge retention as the team grows.
Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, ensuring staff feel supported, motivated, and engaged in exhibition planning and execution.
Assign, schedule, and supervise the work of volunteers, interns, sub-contractors, and/or regular and temporary staff assigned to work area.
Ensure exhibitions reflect the latest museum standards and innovations by continuously engaging in professional development through workshops, research, and peer collaboration.
Stakeholder & Community Engagement
Develop and implement community-driven exhibitions that amplify underrepresented voices, ensuring diverse cultural narratives are included.
Strengthen partnerships with historically marginalized communities, including Indigenous groups, immigrant populations, and communities of color, to foster inclusive exhibition development.
Actively engage with local artists, historians, and cultural organizations to co-curate exhibitions that reflect the lived experiences of Longmont’s diverse residents.
Develop bilingual and multi-sensory exhibition experiences to enhance accessibility for non-English-speaking and neurodiverse visitors.
Seek and secure partnerships with national institutions and traveling exhibitions that align with institutional goals and community engagement strategies.
Build and maintain partnerships with City divisions, cultural organizations, and community groups to enhance participation in museum exhibitions and programs.
