Hiring Range: $16.30 - $17.52 per hour, depending on experience/qualifications.
Work Schedule: Generally, Friday-Sunday and weekdays as scheduled programs dictate; not to exceed 28 hours per week or 6 months in duration.
NATURE OF WORK
As a member of the Town of Windsor Museums team, individuals in this position make art, culture, history, and nature accessible to the public through innovative and engaging programs. The Town of Windsor Museums comprise the Windsor History Museum, the Art & Heritage Center, the Eaton House, and the Historic Halfway Homestead.
Museum Education Interns gain meaningful paid experience with a focus on museum education and interpretation. Interns assist in the planning, preparation, and implementation of museum programs and events, including educational summer camps and history events, and support museum and gallery operations. This is a temporary position May-August, with a potential to extend further, depending on the needs of the town, but will not exceed six months in length (or 1,040 hours, whichever comes first). This is strictly temporary employment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED Individuals work under the direct supervision of the Museum Education Coordinator, to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances.
Essential Job Functions
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:
- Assist museum staff in the creation, implementation, and facilitation of educational and interpretive programs, tours, summer camps, and events.
- Assist with the implementation of outreach activities including activity tables at community events, museum events, and evening programming.
- Supervise public visitation of the museum facilities, including answering questions and providing interpretive building tours as needed.
- Act as a steward of the Town of Windsor Museum sites including opening and closing facilities in a trustworthy manner.
- Participate in training and professional development as needed to successfully perform responsibilities.
- Adhere to town policies, standards, and regulations, including but not limited to proper attire, safety procedures, and overall professionalism.
- Performs related work as required and assigned.
OTHER DUTIES Depending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following:
- Performs research as directed, such as discovering new technology, tools, market research, programs, etc.
- May be involved in special projects that are directly or indirectly related to essential job functions
- Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the town
- Assists other programs & town departments/divisions as necessary
Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Effective verbal communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to engage audiences of all ages in a professional and approachable manner.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and dependability skills, including the ability to follow schedules, support assigned programs, and meet expectations during museum open hours and events.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including regular weekend shifts and daytime hours as required by programs and museum operations.
- Demonstrated customer service, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with staff and volunteers.
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills, including the ability to remain calm, courteous, and professional in challenging or stressful situations and to follow policies and procedures, including emergencies.
- Basic proficiency with standard office equipment and computer software, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to understand and carry out assigned instructions accurately.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & FORMAL TRAINING
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older
- Anyone interested in the museum field is welcome to apply including students, recent graduates, and others seeking experience. Those enrolled in a related degree program (history, art, museum studies, environmental studies, education, etc.) are strongly encouraged to apply.
- One (1) year of experience working with the public, including public speaking, customer service, or teaching groups of children and adults, preferably in a museum or educational setting, is preferred.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
- A valid Colorado Driver's License that meets the Town of Windsor’s standards and ability to maintain throughout employment.
