    Job Summary:

    The Curator of Education leads all educational programming at the City of Greeley Museums, including the Greeley History Museum, Centennial Village Museum, Meeker Home Museum, and the White-Plumb Farm Learning Center. Youth programming is a key City Council priority, and the Curator of Education will be the leader in this space for Museums. This role encompasses developing, implementing, and overseeing educational programs designed to engage diverse audiences. The Curator of Education supervises three part-time Historic Site Interpreters, work-study students, interns, volunteers and collaborates extensively with internal city departments and external stakeholders, such as school districts, teachers, and other regional museum education professionals, to enhance educational experiences.

    Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

    Minimum Requirements

    • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in education, Museum Studies, History, or a related field required.
    • Minimum of five years of experience in museum education or a related field.

    Preferred

    • Bilingual in English and Spanish (spoken and written) is highly desired.

    • Strong understanding of educational theory, curriculum development, and instructional strategies.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
    • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, with experience managing staff and volunteers.
    • Proficiency in technology used for educational purposes, including virtual learning tools and presentation software.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
    • Knowledge of museum best practices and standards.
    • Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities. 
    • Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal. 
    • Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and learn and experiment with new software and systems.
    • Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others.
    • Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly.
    • Organizational skills, including the ability to set and meet goals and deadlines, manage appointments, create schedules, coordinate and facilitate meetings, and make decisions. 
    • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent and competing tasks and responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining personal effectiveness.

    Essential Functions:

    • Assesses existing, develop new, and implement a comprehensive range of educational programs, including workshops, school tours, public lectures, family activities, and community outreach initiatives.
    • Ensures programs are inclusive, accessible, and cater to diverse learning styles and cultural backgrounds.
    • Assesses existing and develop new educational materials following best museum practices that align with local and state curriculum standards, facilitating classroom integration.
    • Collaborates with educators to create resources that enhance school visits and support learning objectives.
    • Serves as the primary liaison to school districts, teachers, other educational professionals and vested community groups, building strong partnerships.
    • Engages with community organizations to promote museum programs and foster collaborative projects.
    • Works with divisions in CPRD and the City of Greeley as a whole to co-create and enhance educational experiences for all ages.
    • Plans, creates content for, and maintains virtual educational programs and experiences. Utilize various virtual platforms and technological equipment to engage diverse audiences.
    • Coordinates and delivers outreach programs and community projects to extend the museum’s educational impact beyond its physical locations.
    • Conducts ongoing assessment and evaluation of educational programs to ensure they meet learning goals and audience needs. Implement improvements based on feedback and research.
    • Collects and analyzes data to report on program outcomes and impact.
    • Supervises and mentors three part-time Historic Site Interpreters, work-study students, interns, and volunteers. Oversee their work schedules, duties, and provide necessary training. Manage timecards for part-time and seasonal staff.
    • Provides training opportunities with a focus on employee development and resolve conflicts and complaints.
    • Develops detailed project plans for educational initiatives. Assign tasks to team members to ensure timely project completion and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Coordinates with the Historic Sites Supervisor, Museum Manager and other Curators to plan for annual budgets, programming and ensuring the museums are meeting established yearly goals. Implement spending in line with approved and established budgets and assist in monitoring and developing any capital needs within the museum sites.
    • Coordinates with the Historic Sites Supervisor, Museum Manager, and other Curators to develop alternative sources of funding including grants, sponsorships, and donations.
    • Ensures compliance with safety procedures in all educational programming. Implement and oversee best practices for handling and storing educational objects.

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

    • Frequent and intensive interaction with museum visitors in diverse weather conditions.
    • Regular outdoor work, requiring resilience in adverse weather.
    • Travel to other Museums sites and school classrooms as required.
    • Physical ability to move, bend, twist, and stoop as needed.
    • Stamina for prolonged periods of activity, including wearing historical clothing.
    • Adequate vision to perform job-related tasks.
    • Effective hearing and speech capabilities to communicate with large groups ranging from 1 to 100 people.
