Job Description:
Job duties
· Assess HTML, PDF, and word document legacy finding aids for migration.
· Identify descriptive elements within legacy finding aids and map them to DACS-compliant descriptive elements within ArchivesSpace records.
· Create and edit ArchivesSpace records to emulate hierarchies identified within legacy finding aids.
· Apply appropriate subject headings and other access points to ArchivesSpace findings aids.
· Conduct quality control of finding aids migrated into ArchivesSpace.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework/training in library science, archives administration, history, public administration, museum studies or related field, and two years of experience in cataloging, processing or otherwise working with library/archives materials.
Preferred Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited Master of Library Science program with Archival Studies specialization or equivalent professional archives certification, coursework, and experience.
Regular in-office attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- · Basic understanding of archival theories and standards (DACS, EAD, etc.)
- · Excellent computer skills (working knowledge of html, windows, adobe, etc.)
- · Strong project management skills
- · Must be self-directed and work independently Excellent communication skills
The Nebraska State Historical Society is seeking an organized, engaged, self-starter to serve as the agency’s Archives Assistant for ArchivesSpace. The Nebraska State Historical Society is currently migrating our archival collection records from PastPerfect into ArchivesSpace. This position is a two year grant funded position, to support the migration of analog finding aids into ArchivesSpace.
