The National Scouting Museum at Philmont Scout Ranch has a paid +Room and Board internship for the Summer 2023. The Museum Specialist will work primarily as a behind-the-scenes technician, providing their individual skills, knowledge and experience to technical museum projects. Projects may include work involving: document archives, collections management, collections conservation, collections cataloguing, assisting with exhibit curation, collections inventory, assisting in the library, writing and editing text, and general museum promotions. The Museum Specialist reports directly to the Curator of Collections. While on Philmont property, the Museum Specialist acts as an official representative of the National Scouting Museum / Philmont Museum.
The applicant should be in an undergraduate or graduate program in either Museum Studies or Public History. A knowledge of PastPerfect is preferred but not required. The applicant will have to register with the Boy Scouts of America to work at the museum. The curator will work with student and his/her advisor to set up a curriculum to establish course credit.
The work week 40 hrs. Monday - Friday 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. with some nights or weekends for special events. The monthly compensation is $1345 a month plus Room (canvas wall tent) & Board (meals at dining hall).
